Diffusing Your Child's Temper Tantrums

According to Fran Walfish, Psyd, a psychotherapist and author of a book called "The Self-Aware Parent", when your daughter wails and says "I want a toy!", first you should try to assess your own embarrassment and anger at the situation. This can help stop knee-jerk reactions such as shouting or ignoring your child.

For a better solution; - try saying; "I know you really want the doll, but we're not buying toys right now". In this manner, empathy helps your child see that you value her feelings - and will put her at ease.
